Yacht Purchasing Resources
This page is offered to assist those interested in buying Abeona. It contains sections with resources related to various aspects of boat purchasing. While all of these were recommended by other sailors (mostly friends of ours), we ao not endorse any of the providers or take responsibility for their competence or abilities :)
Financing
Good overview and advice from yacht finance broker Zack Hamric "There are roughly 15 US banks (more or less) that offer marine loans- they primarily work with brokers. Only 2 of them will allow a boat to be sailed internationally. Greta and I own our brokerage company- offices in Puerto Rico and Florida- and finance a little over $60 million a year in the US, Caribbean, and for non-US citizens- that includes maybe 40 catamarans. If you have a potential buyer, I can take an application, 2 years of tax returns and tell you within a day with 95% certainty whether they can be financed. Current rates are 4.43%- 4.68% in the US for 20 year loans from $100k to $750k(slightly higher in the Caribbean). Large loans- over $750k are 4.25% If I have the information over the weekend, it goes into the bank on Monday morning- I'll have an approval within 2 days contingent on survey, seatrial, and haulout. It's a fast process...and pretty darn painless. ":)

Insurance
Kolisch Marine Insurance. Joe Kolisch ([email protected]) and Bill Porter ([email protected]). Our brokers who were able to get us underwritten by Yacht Insure with the experience level we had when we bought Abeona. About the cheapest we found too. Easy to work with.
Independent Marine Insurance. Susan Waters ([email protected]) got us a quote from Jackline Merkel, who a lot of people love. Previously, we couldn't get a quote from them. We elected to stay with our current broker.
Novamar Insurance. Rob Lindley ([email protected]) was very nice and Novamar is highly rated. A bit pricier than other quotes we had.

Documentation
For a private (non-brokered) transaction, the use of a documentation agent is highly recommended. Not only can they take care of the title search and make sure that all the necessary forms have been prepared correctly and submitted, they can help direct buyers and sellers through the whole process. Most can also handle the escrow and closing, which is a big value ad.
